- Marriage age: Until the new law came into force, it was possible to get married from the age of 16. With the new modification, minors under the age of 18 can only marry if they are legally emancipated.
- Marriage in a religious form. Until the new law on voluntary jurisdiction came into force, marriage could be contracted in a religious form when the state agreed with a religious denomination or without the need for an agreement when the state authorised it. Now it is sufficient for the religious denomination to have obtained the recognition of notorious roots in Spain in order to be able to celebrate marriages with civil efficacy.
- Marriage before a notary is a new practice, which did not exist before. It is foreseen that in the near future, the Notary Public will also be able to process the preliminary proceedings necessary to verify that all the necessary requirements for contracting the marriage have been met.
